Baptism is a very important part of the Christian faith as it puts on display to the world that we have received Christ as our Savior and are united with Him. Being submerged in water identifies the Christian with the death of Jesus and rising out of the water with his resurrection. This identification with the death, burial, and resurrection through baptism testifies to the fact that we believe in faith that Jesus died for our sins, was buried, rose three days later, and now is alive and Lord over all creation!
As Scripture states, “We were buried therefore with him by baptism into death, in order that, just as Christ was raised from the dead by the glory of the Father, we too might walk in newness of life” – Romans 6:4.
Not only does baptism serve to identify us with Christ, but it also displays our obedience to Christ as it fulfills what Jesus has commanded of us:
“Go therefore and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, teaching them to observe all that I have commanded you. And behold, I am with you always, to the end of the age.” – Matthew 28:19-20
Who should be baptized?
